Unveiled yesterday, the jersey features a distressed map of the Highlanders' territory on the front. They also have ``battleground coordinates'' on the sleeves. These provide the exact location of Forsyth Barr Stadium, the venue for the Highlanders' match against the Lions on June 13.
"It's a big year for rugby in New Zealand with the return of the Lions," senior director of adidas rugby Simon Cartwright said.
"So we want to arm all teams with everything they need to defend their territories.
"Each jersey is a visual representation of the pride they have in their region. What's become very clear to us in our conversations with team leaders is that losing this battle is not an option."
The other four franchises have similarly designed jerseys, with their territories on the front.
The Lions' tour begins on Saturday June 3 and culminates on July 8 with the third test against the All Blacks.
