Highlanders assistant coach Mark Hammett said yesterday the side's All Blacks wanted to play but that did not necessarily mean they would take the field.
``We have got to integrate them back carefully around how much they have played and how much they haven't played,'' Hammett said.
``They're all keen and they're all going to be here. It is a day at a time for Ben [Smith]. But he is in a really good spot and we are happy for him.''
The two Liams - Coltman and Squire - will be itching to get back on the paddock after being with the All Blacks for the entire British and Irish Lions series but not getting any game time.
Smith left the field in the first test against the Lions and was initially ruled out of the series because of continuing concussion.
But it emerged last week he had not been concussed at all this year and his dizzy spells were caused by an inner-ear problem.
All Black coach Steve Hansen said at the weekend Smith was clear to play.
Hammett said the conversation around whether Smith would play on Friday was yet to take place.
Halfback Aaron Smith had a hectic series and ran himself into the ground on Saturday night in the third test and may be due a rest.
Lima Sopoaga did not see any play in the test series so will be keen to get back on the field for the Highlanders.
He has not started a Super Rugby match since early March although he did start for the side against the Lions last month.
Centre Malakai Fekitoa played in the second half of the test on Saturday night.
The Highlanders can finish only seventh or eighth in the playoffs and the Reds are out of the running for post-season action
Hammett said despite little riding on the result in terms of the table on Friday night the side had plenty to play for.
``There is lots on it for us. It is our last home game. The crowd has been absolutely awesome. So it is crucial for what is in it for them and us.
``So as we head into the quarters it is massive for us. And we know what a talented team the Reds are ... a team that has nothing to play for can be bloody dangerous. And we are aware of that.''
The Highlanders will not know where they are heading for the quarterfinals although it will be in either Christchurch or Johannesburg.
If the side has to travel to South Africa, it will leave on Sunday morning, stay overnight in Sydney on Sunday and head west on Monday.
Hammett did not have a preference.
The entire side had a couple of weeks off after the Lions match but had been hard at work since coming back together on June 29. It beat a Crusaders side 33-12 in Timaru last week.
Coming back for the final part of the season, Hammett said the side wanted to be more innovative in the next few weeks and bring some spark into its game.
There were no new injuries for players.
The Highlanders announced yesterday hooker Ash Dixon has re-signed with the team until 2019.
