Going wild over tackle

''Smashed 'em bro'' might take in a bit of Dunedin scenery this Friday - Watson Park to be precise.

Word is Harbour and Otago loose forward Naulia Dawai's massive tackle on fellow Fijian Inoke Naivalulevu two weeks ago could be screened during the popular section of The Crowd Goes Wild.

Footage of his tackle was posted on the The Crowd Goes Wild's Facebook page and has gone viral with more than 344,000 views.

More than 6,000 people have ''liked'' the short video and it has been shared more than 2,000 times.

The clip was shot by Dunedin Club Rugby Analysis.

The tackle is a cracker.

Dawai has lined up the Zingari-Richmond winger from about 15m away, sprinted in, dived and skittled him.

The wet conditions have added to the spectacle.

The pair are seen skimming into touch.

Dawai, better known as Ratu Dawai, was surprised and a little embarrassed by the notoriety the tackle has brought.

''I am surprised. I guess it is a bit of both,'' he said when the Otago Daily Times phoned for comment.

''I didn't expect it.''

Harbour won the match 19-0 on a bleak day at Watson Park. The jarring tackle came about when Dawai was patrolling the blindside.

''I was just covering the blindside and he didn't actually see me coming because, when I tackled him, he was going for a chip kick.''

Dawai is more focused on Harbour's remaining round-robin matches than his 15 minutes of fame. The Hawks are on top of the standings and unbeaten since round one.

Pirates should not present too many problems this Saturday nor Green Island next weekend. But the final-round clash against Southern at Bathgate Park will be a stern test.

''The boys are having a good season ... and we are working really hard on all our plays and our D [defence].''
