Rugby: Moeahu shines as Green Island trounce students

Halfback Mike Moeahu had a blinding game as Green Island scored seven tries to beat University A at the University Oval.

He controlled the ball behind a rampant Green Island pack that took the game to the students.

Moeahu is an astute reader of the game and his skill at moving down the blindside led to two second-half tries.

Winger Roma Sauileoge had pace out wide and used his speed to score two tries.

Green Island controlled the game in the forwards, with flankers Jason Bint and Mika Mafi keeping pressure on the students. Mafi was a strong runner with the ball in hand and hooker Sam Smith made ground with the pick and go.

The students kept spreading the ball wide but were not able to breach the solid Green Island defence.

Loose forwards Dale Jarden, Jack Wolfreys and Aaron Scott were a strong defensive unit.

- Green Island 42 (Roma Sauileoge 2, Dean Moeahu 2, Jesse Toto, Sam Smith, Luke Johnston tries; Sauileoge con, pen, Moeahu con), University A 10 (Guy Schwikkard try; Stephen Fenemore con, pen). Halftime: 15-3. Referee: Adam Morrison.
