The Larry Salmon Memorial Trophy remains in the Kettle Park clubrooms after Dunedin snatched a narrow 23-21 win over Pirates in Dunedin premier club rugby today.
Salmon, the masseur for the Dunedin club and the Otago rugby team, had an affinity to both beach clubs because both clubs drank at the Beach Hotel which he owned.
No 8 Mark Grieve-Dunn and halfback Brad Weber were the best Dunedin players while Marshall Suckling stood out in the backs for Pirates and flanker Josh Clark in the pack.
The dominant Harbour front row of Jamie McIntosh, Pete Mirrielees and Ben Nolan paved the way for a 29-17 win against Alhambra-Union.
The normally reliable Peter Breen left his goal kicking boots at home and landed only one goal from six attempts for Alhambra-Union.
Southern led 23-8 after 33 minutes but Taieri came to life after this to win a thriller 35-31 at Peter Johnstone Park.
