Otago Rugby Football Union operations manager Coryn Huddy has hit upon the idea of getting cars to park on the ground and letting the occupants get out of their vehicles to view the match between Otago and Northland.
There would be up to 60 parking spaces available and they would be situated on the ground to allow spectators in the stand to have a clear view of the game.
Union marketing manager Doug McSweeney said people would have to book their vehicle spaces before noon on Friday and the offer had been made to ground ticket-holders first. If there were four people in a vehicle then all four would have to have tickets to the game.
McSweeney said the initiative was something different and he hoped people would support the idea. It would be a chance to view the game from a different angle.
The weather forecast was good, he said. The ground around the field was in good order and should not be damaged by the cars.
Cars would enter from the Neville St end of the ground, by the large video screen.
The game was the only game Otago would play at Carisbrook this season with a 2.35pm kick-off, and McSweeney hoped people from the country area would come down for the day.
Otago Metropolitan under-16 and under-18 sides were taking on their Otago Country counterparts at Carisbrook.
The under-16 sides would clash before the main game kicks off while the under-18 game would take place afterwards.
