The Otago Rugby Football Union will get a board representative from the Otago Country area.

Clutha Valley farmer Tony Pringle has joined the board, but it may continue to have eight board members.

After a special general meeting of the union early last month, the constitution was changed so two new members were to be added to the board.

The two new members were representatives of Dunedin metropolitan clubs and a representative of Otago Country.

The constitution change was driven by the clubs and Otago Country wanting to have more say on various matters.

Lee Piper, from the Dunedin club, has been appointed to the Otago board by the clubs, while Pringle takes his place at the table after being appointed by Otago Country.

But board numbers may remain at eight after board deputy chairman Ross Hansen stood down last month.

Board chairwoman Rowena Davenport said Hansen had been on the board for five years and he felt it was time to move on.

Pringle was an active administrator who had been heavily involved in the sport in South Otago and throughout the wider Otago country area.

Davenport said the board was undecided whether it would replace Hansen and bring the total board numbers up to nine. It would be discussed at the next meeting.

-Former Black Caps pace bowler Shayne O'Connor will be the manager of the Otago Mitre 10 Cup side this season.

O'Connor, who is based in Clyde, had been general manager and director of Trail Journeys for 12 years before moving into his own business providing professional coaching and mentoring to business owners, managers and athletes.

O'Connor replaces Andrew Hunter, who did the job last year.
