The Otago Daily Times and Rugby News magazine are again hosting a "long lunch" for the Otago-Southland business community.

The event is at the Dunedin Town Hall on Friday, August 4 from 11am to 3pm.

People could buy tables of 10, half tables or individual tickets, Allied Press commercial manager Matthew Holdridge said yesterday.

"There are still plenty of seats available, but we’re over 50% sold out with capacity for 400, so we’re keen to fill the Town Hall.

"We’re really excited to welcome a top lineup of guests to our luncheon the Friday before the Bledisloe Cup test."

Wallabies great Tim Horan and former All Blacks fullback Mils Muliaina are the headline acts.

Horan was a class act who played 80 internationals and formed one of the all-time great midfield pairings with Jason Little, winning the Rugby World Cup in 1991 and 1999.

He played 20 Bledisloe Cup tests, of which eight were won by Australia, so he will no doubt have some insight into how the Wallabies might end their long fruitless run in the transtasman clash.

Muliaina, originally from Southland, was one of the stalwarts of a fine era of All Blacks rugby.

He became just the second New Zealander to play 100 tests when he took the field against Argentina at the 2011 Rugby World Cup.

Muliaina scored 34 tries for the All Blacks and played in 25 Bledisloe Cup tests.

But wait, there’s more.

Former Otago favourite-turned businessman and television personality Marc Ellis will also be a guest at the lunch.

Organisers have also managed to secure a man who will literally be in the middle of the Forsyth Barr Stadium test.

English referee Karl Dickson is controlling the game, making his Bledisloe Cup debut ahead of his engagements at the Rugby World Cup in France.

Dickson, a classy halfback in his day who played 169 games for the Harlequins club and a non-international for England, made his test refereeing debut in 2018.

"Mils, Tim, Marc and Karl will add some real interest, insight and no doubt a little bit of fun to the occasion," Holdridge said.

"I can’t think of any better way to kick off the weekend in Dunedin."
