Everything else has changed.
No surprises there.
The All Blacks were always likely to make wholesale changes to their run-on side for their match against Fiji at Forsyth Barr Stadium tomorrow night.
Even Will Jordan, who scored five tries in the 102-0 romp against Tonga at Mt Smart on Saturday, has been rewarded for an impressive effort with a spot on the bench.
Marc Ellis’ record six tries in a single match for the All Blacks looks safe for another week.
Perhaps the most notable aspect of the team naming was Aaron Smith’s promotion.
The veteran halfback will captain the All Blacks in his 98th game for the team.
All Blacks coach Ian Foster said Smith had thoroughly earned his elevation to the top job.
“Aaron is a special player with real mana and a natural leader and his preparation is second to none," Foster said.
"I’m sure he, his wife, Teagan, and his wider whanau will be proud of what he has achieved."
Otago prop George Bower will make his starting debut, while Highlanders and Southland loosehead Ethan de Groot has been named on the bench and will be making his debut if he gets on.
Highlander Shannon Frizell has been included in an inexperienced but exciting loose forward trio which includes Ethan Blackadder, who will be making his first start in the black jersey after coming off the bench previously.
Blackadder might have some ground to make up after he injured Beauden Barrett during training which left the All Blacks first five with a couple of black eyes. He is good to go, though.
Veteran lock Brodie Retallick will make his return to the All Blacks following a playing stint in Japan.
He will start alongside Patrick Tuipulotu, while Sam Whitelock will move to the bench.
"It is great to have [Retallick] back," Foster said.
"But you’ve got to remember he has come through quarantine after a full season [in Japan].
"We’ll see what we get on Saturday night but we’ve got a lot of faith and trust in him, and I know he is jumping out of his skin to get back on the park for us."
Another notable feature sees David Havili picked to start at second five.
Havili has played multiple positions in Super Rugby but seems to have settled on a spot in the midfield.
Foster was non-committal when asked if he felt second five was his best spot.
"It is the opportunity he has got in front of him right now.
"It is where he played this year. He played well and got selected in the jersey we’ve given him."
The All Blacks have a lot of versatile players, so being able to offer an edge in a specialist position is what will ultimately prove more valuable.
Foster expects Fiji will present a different challenge from Tonga, who called in a lot of club players and struggled with the pace of the game.
“They are a more established side made up of primarily overseas-based players, who are amongst some of the better players in Europe.
“We can’t wait to play under the roof at Forsyth Barr Stadium. It should be a fast, physical match and our team are excited by what the weekend will bring.”
