Queenstown alpine ski racer Alice Robinson had another top-10 finish at the Italian round of the Giant Slalom World Cup yesterday.

Robinson (21) backed up her eighth placing on Tuesday with a solid ninth in Kronplatz.

It is another sign she is rediscovering some of her best form after a difficult year in 2022.

Robinson, who is known as being one of the more aggressive giant slalom skiers on the world circuit, had a tactical first run, observing what had happened to skiers who had gone before her and adjusting her line to maximise her speed.

Although the course was not friendly to those starting in later bib numbers — Robinson was in bib 21 — her powerful skiing made short work of the rutted course and she finished the first run in 10th position.

Robinson has been working on her start speed, which was evident in her first interval of her second run, clocking the fastest first interval time, matched only by the decorated Mikaela Shiffrin.

The unstoppable force that is Shiffrin again claimed the top spot, marking the 84th world cup win of her career.

Ragnhild Mowinckel (Norway) was second, with Beijing Olympic gold medallist Sara Hector, of Sweden, finishing third.

Her back-to-back efforts have continued to build Robinson’s confidence as she heads into her final world cup race this weekend before heading to France for the alpine world championships.
