Yesterday's Winton harness meeting was the Baynes and Beck show.
The local training and driving combination of Des Baynes and Allan Beck produced a treble of winners.
They scored with Gotta Minute in race 3, Quartz in race 4 and Bettor Buy It in the feature pace, race 9.
Earlier, maiden winner John Coltrane added to the considerable success of his dam, Satire Franco. The 4yr-old charged out of the ruck on the home turn and went on to win for trainer Brent Shirley and driver Matt Anderson.
Shirley, who owns Satire Franco, has won 30 races with the mare’s progeny. Her best performers include multiple country cups winner Costa Del Magnifico, When The Musics Over, I Smart and Rowchester. Rowchester won 10 more races in Western Australia, where Costa Del Magnifico is now trained.
Former North Island trotter War Machine continued to show he is loving life in the South by winning his third consecutive race.
Trained in Pukekohe by Derek Balle last season, he subsequently joined Tony Stratford’s barn in Gore.
Born To Run showed he is a 3yr-old on the rise with his runaway win in the last race. Racing three wide without cover for the last 1000m was not enough to stop the Nathan Williamson-trained pacer winning by two lengths for junior driver Matt Purvis.
