Linda Jenkins clinched the national series for amateur riders when she won The Duke Of Gloucester Cup on Whisper To Me at Trentham yesterday.
Jenkins has now won eight races as an amateur rider, the first as Linda Bryce on Azastar at the Pakuranga Hunt meeting at Ellerslie in August 1985.
Whisper To Me is trained at New Plymouth by John Wheeler, partner of Jenkins.
The Duke Of Gloucester Cup has a history dating to 1936. Prince Henry, the Duke Of Gloucester, presented the cup for competition after he visited New Zealand in 1935.
- Halobelle has been bought by Nearco Stud and will be mated with Swiss Ace this month.
Halobelle left Wingatui yesterday for the Westbury Stud at Papakura where Swiss Ace has begun a stud career.
Halobelle (My Halo-Nassibelle) won eight races including the listed Hazlett Stakes and Gore Guineas when trained at Wingatui by Wayne Stevens for a syndicate of owners.
She amassed $136,025 in stakes.
- The Michael Pitman-trained pair Coup Align and Eel Win were un-placed at Caulfield yesterday.
Coup Align was sixth in a 1000m race and Eel Win ninth over 1440m.
- The Pick6 at Ellersie on Saturday, guaranteed at $1 million, was struck. The pool was $1,424,206, the TAB said.
There were 15.30 live units going into the final leg. Top Rode was the only horse not covered.
The winner, Brompton, carried 1.30 units. The dividend was $1,095,543.30.
Brompton, ridden by James McDonald, was 8-8 in the betting.
- Jonathan Parkes was suspended until midnight on October 7 for careless riding at New Plymouth on Saturday.
Parkes admitted allowing his mount, Nepia, to shift in early in race 6, checking Prince Namir.
