Waitui Music, a clear-cut winner of the $70,000 Riverton Cup on Saturday, is set to back up at Riverton today with a 3kg apprentice allowance.

Waitui Music has 61kg, including a 1.5kg rehandicap for his win. KC Walters has the mount at 58kg in the rating 90 Southern Champion Handicap over 2147m, the Riverton Cup distance.

Lance Robinson, who rode Waitui Music on Saturday, is aboard Celtic Dream.

"He [Waitui Dancer] has come through the race well. The Southern Champion Handicap is a $20,000 race and there are not that many opportunities left for him," Les Didham, his co-trainer, said.

Danz A Rook and Kiwi Hussler are in-form new rivals for Waitui Music.

Danz Rook was a last-start winner at Riverton, where he has gained four of his six wins.

Kiwi Hussler won on Saturday in the hands of Daniel Bothamley. Jamie Bullard has the mount today when Kiwi Hussler has 56kg, 2kg less than he carried over 1600m on Saturday.

The 9yr-old Waitui Music is the oldest horse to win a Riverton Cup for 105 years.

Visionary was the same age when she won the Riverton Cup for the second time in 1906. The Stepniak mare had also won the race in 1902.

Waitui Music gave jockey Lance Robinson his fourth win in the Riverton Cup. He also won the race on Spunky Rhythm (2002), Hapuka Hero (2005), and Gasnier (2009).

Waitui Music is trained at Riccarton by Didham and his son Richard. They race the horse in partnership with Stephen Moffet, of Christchurch, on lease from Marie Jefferies, of Tauranga.

The Didhams and Moffet leased Waitui Music in September after the owner, Brian Jefferies, died and his widow did not wish to continue racing the Germano gelding.

Waitui Music had won two races when trained at Matamata by Graham Richardson and four from the stable of Glenn Old.

Waitui Music won his first start as a 3yr-old at Matamata.

The Didham stable has had success with other horses bearing the Waitui prefix. They include Waitui Dancer (nine wins), Waitui Bay (six) and Waitui Gold (four).

Moffet was in the ownership of Waitui Bay. He has also raced Fingalbunt (2003 Stewards' Handicap) and Ozziecrop (six wins) from the Didham stable.

Waitui Music won first up for the Didhams at Kurow in December. The Riverton Cup was his second win in seven starts for the stable.

Richard Trimbole became the third winner from as many foals out of Greta's Way to race when he won the 2yr-old event at Riverton on Saturday.

His brother Harry Trimbole recorded his fourth win when successful in the $18,000 race for 3 and 4yr-olds later in the day. The pair are trained by Noel Graham, who has won with another brother, Mr Trimbole, this season. The trio are by Danske.

Shankar Muniandy was suspended from tomorrow until next Monday inclusive for careless riding at Riverton on Saturday.

Muniandy, the rider of Jaylay (race 9), admitted shifting in at the 1900m, causing a check to Flying Tap.
