Steven McRae, the Halswell trainer, continued his run of success on the holiday circuit with the wins of Franco Nullabour and New Revenue.

McRae has also won the Gore Cup (Cracker Black) and Equine Stakes at Winton (Franco Rafaella) and a maiden race with Jolene Franco on the circuit.

Franco Nullabour, who was having his first start, won easily. He is one of the biggest horses racing at 17.3 hands and McRae (6ft 2in) is stretching to adjust gear on the gelding.

Franco Nullabour is a 4yr-old half-brother by Rocknroll Hanover to Franco Nester, who has been successful in 28 races in Australia.

"He was broken in as a yearling and we have just had to wait on him because of his size," McRae said.

"He is still 12 months away from full development."

Spreydon Lodge races Franco Nullabour with Peter Chambers, an Australian based in Jakarta.

McRae is the trainer for Spreydon Lodge based at Halswell. New Revenue is co-owned by Zane Gregg, who has worked for Spreydon Lodge for 26 years.

Gregg races New Revenue with his partner Dale Garing.

New Revenue is her first winner.

Gregg has owned and trained others including Franco Elect, winner of a Timaru Nursery Stakes. He raced Franco Elect with the late Wayne Francis, who established Spreydon Lodge and Nevele R Stud.

Spreydon Lodge bred Franco Ledger and sold him as a yearling.

Gregg bought New Revenue as a weanling as a prospective broodmare at a Spreydon Lodge reduction sale.

New Revenue races in the colours of green with gold crossed sashes, the same as those used by champion trainer and driver of yesteryear Maurice Holmes.

Gregg sought permission of the Holmes family to duplicate the colours. Gregg drove Orfeo to win a race for Maurice Holmes.
