Saturday's Forbury Park Trotting Club meeting might have been at Gore rather than Forbury Park, but location does not seem to matter to Martin Denton's racing team right now.

The Mosgiel trainer is enjoying the best season of his eight season training career after wins from Missy Mach and Och Aye The Noo took his season tally to eight, three more than his previous season best of five in 2012 13.

Denton has based his racing team at Noel Bennett's property near East Taieri as he waits to build a track at a new property at Momona.

Och Aye The Noo and Rory Mach had already shown how much they had thrived there with wins at Forbury Park on May 21, while Och Aye The Noo backed up her top form with another victory on May 29.

Missy Mach had been knocking on the door too with two tidy efforts in May and, once driver Jonny Cox got the mare into the one out, one back spot, Denton was confident.

''He drove it perfect. It's a big thing when he knows the horses,'' Denton said.

''She won in the slush like this at Invercargill over the 1700m.''

Westwood Beach trainer Amber Hoffman started the day off well for trainers local to Forbury Park when Boyz Let Loose broke through for his first win at his 18th start.

The 5yr old also gave Hoffman her first win in her official new colours which arrived from the suppliers in the past week after her training partnership with Jonny Cox was dissolved three months ago.

Hoffman was slightly surprised Boyz Let Loose held on to win.

''I actually thought 2700m might be a bit far for him because he's still quite weak,'' she said.

''He's more a 2200m horse at the moment but he just did his own thing and didn't get bothered by anyone too much.''

Boyz Let Loose's Rakaia owners Gavin Doody and Stuart Sutherland opted to try the gelding with Hoffman just over a month ago, she said.

''They didn't want to travel him too much as he's big and skinny. They just thought leaving him down on the beach might be good for him rather than going around corners.''

Paula's On Fire ensured Tisbury trainer Kirstin Barclay would be popular at her stables this week when the stable favourite finally earned her graduation to the c1 grade.

''She's just a cool wee horse - everyone's favourite around the stable - so it was good to see her get her day in the sun,'' Barclay said.

Barclay might consider a Golden Girls heat with the half sister to Hardly Matters and Another Matter.

Ryal Bush trainer Nathan Williamson discovered a new skill set with Kiwi Focus on Saturday, one which might well be seen again in the near future.

Kiwi Focus drew barrier 8 due to the preferential barrier draw conditions of the Golden Girls heat, so Williamson decided to test her gate speed.

''I haven't really used her out of the gate before, but I thought I would today,'' he said.

''I asked her to come out and she crossed them nice. We got an easy time until midway down the back and got a good breather.

''She's going to Forbury again on Thursday for the same race, and she'll draw the outside again. I won't say for sure, but it gives me good options.''
