Racing: Tinsley has suspension reduced

Jockey Hayden Tinsley has had a suspension reduced and fine deleted after at an appeal yesterday over a charge of careless riding in the New Zealand One Thousand Guineas.

The appeal judges, Geoff Hall and Richard Seabrook, upheld the finding of the judicial control authority committee that found Tinsley guilty of careless riding on Magic Briar, who finished second in the Guineas at Riccarton on November 13.

The committee upheld a protest from Mark Du Plessis, the rider of We Can Say It Now, and relegated Magic Briar to fifth.

Tinsley defended a charge that he had shifted in at the 200m when not clear of Twilight Savings and Miss Maximuss with a resultant severe check to We Can Say It Now.

He was suspended from November 14 to 28 and fined $1000.

The appeal judges reduced the suspension to six riding days and dropped the fine.

Tinsley rode at Otaki on Friday and Wanganui on Saturday under a stay of proceedings.

He is engaged for last-start winners Albus, Fears Nothing and King Raedwald at Trentham on Saturday.

His other engagements are Super Easy, Dancing Diamond, Coquetea, MacO'Reilly and Bases Loaded.

Hank resumes work today with his new trainer Fiona Hurst at Washdyke.

The Haafiz gelding won races at Riccarton and Ashburton, both over 1200m, last season when trained by Peter and Dawn Williams at Riccarton.

He has not raced since May.

Hank is a replacement for Under Parr, whom Hurst retired after the 9yr-old pulled up sore at the Timaru meeting on October 31.

Under Parr won eight races, including a dead-heat with Lotus in the 2009 Oamaru Cup for owner Cliff Shortus.
