Racing: Three Cup runners

Borninthestates spearheads a three-prong challenge by trainer Michael Pitman for the Invercargill Cup tomorrow.

The race was on a Southland Racing Club programme last February when the meeting was abandoned after four races.

"The committee decided to still have the race in 2010 and it will be run again in February," Doug Stuart, the racing manager for Gallop South, said.

The race in February will be back up to 2600m from 2200m on Saturday.

Borninthestates, Coup Callum and Peyow Peyow represent the Pitman stable.

Borninthestates recaptured winning form at Cromwell 12 days ago when he carried 59kg over 2000m.

He has the same weight tomorrow and Jamie Bullard has retained the mount.

Borninthestates ran third to Relampago and Sabicraft in the 2008 Invercargill Cup.

Peyow Peyow was disqualified from fourth behind Borninthestates at Cromwell when his rider failed to weigh in.

He has won three races at Ascot Park.

Coup Callum was promoted to fourth at Cromwell when favourite.

John and Karen Parsons, who have trained the winners of six Invercargill Cups, are represented tomorrow by Shelby.

He was a last-start third at Cromwell but has not won a race since March.

Trilogy has to be respected on the minimum.

She has won five races over distances from 2000m to 2500m, including a maiden win at Gore in September.

Ashlee Mundy has replaced the suspended Daniel Stackhouse on the Generous mare.

Mundy won the 2008 Invercargill Cup on Relampago.

Trilogy is trained by Lester Morris, who won the race in 2007 with Son Of The Oak.

• King's Rose would follow a well-defined path by winning the Eulogy Stakes at Awapuni tomorrow.

She is the last-start winner of the New Zealand One Thousand Guineas, and winners of that race to follow up with success in the Eulogy are Phillipa Rush (1989), Plume (1990), Snap (1993), Clear Rose (1995), Justa Tad (2004) and Insouciant (2007).
