Racing: Third Forbury Park meeting abandoned

The abandonment of a third race meeting this season by the Forbury Park Trotting Club is due to a combination of factors, Paul Knowles the general manager of the club, said.

The meeting scheduled for Tuesday was abandoned when it attracted only 44 horses.

"We would have been only able to stage four or five races and it would not have been economic," Knowles said.

"It means there is no racing for local horses and it affects our cash flow a bit."

He said the abandonment of seven meetings (two because of snow) in two months of the new season was a symptom of the dates structure.

"There are too many meetings and they are too close together for August and September and a lot of horses have been sold to Australia," he said. "The situation will be rectified when the dates are allotted next season."

Meetings scheduled for September 1 (Thursday) and 23 (Friday) had also been abandoned due to insufficient entries.

The club has held two race meetings this season and the next is scheduled for Thursday week.
