McDonald won a $20,000 race for 3yr-olds in Auckland with Terror To Love and a $4000 race for maiden 3yr-olds in Dunedin with Herbie's Bro.
Both horses are trained at West Melton by Graham and Paul Court. Terror To Love and Herbie's Bro both won narrowly after identical runs, trailing the pacemaker and coming along the passing lane.
Herbie's Bro is a half-brother by Falcon Seelster to the ill-fated Tuherbs, winner of the Welcome Stakes and Easter Cup for McDonald and Eddie Griffin of Dunedin.
Terror To Love bettered the New Zealand record for a 3yr-old over 2200m (mobile) when he won in 2.39.6 last night. The previous best was 2.40.1 set by Sir Lincoln this year.
• Larix may have benefitted from a week in the stable of Phil Williamson. The mare won last night in her first race back with Whiterig owner Gay McClymont and her first for a month.
Larix was unplaced in one start for Williamson at the New Zealand Cup meeting.
"I sent her to Phil for experience," McClymont said.
It was the fourth win for Larix last night in 10 starts.
• I Can Doosit lowered the New Zealand record for a trotter over 2700m (mobile) at Alexandra Park last night with a time of 3.22.6 in the Lyell Creek Stakes. His time took 0.7sec off the record set by One Over Kenny in 2008.
