The son of Majestic Son and million-dollar trotting mare One Over Kenny will be eyeing up the spring features as usual, but his fresh semen will also be available for breeders.
Co-owner Lex Williams, who bred the trotter with his wife, Heather, said the rising 6yr-old had been given light stud duties two years ago during a spell from racing, and resulting progeny Da Moons Mission and One Apollo were looking good.
"We're going to do it European style and keep him racing,'' Williams said.
European trotting stallions often continue their racing careers mixed in with stallion careers.
The entire will be with Paul Nairn for the spring campaign, when he will attempt to defend his Ashburton Flying Stakes crown, along with the usual New Zealand Cup week features such as the New Zealand Trotting Free-for-all and the Dominion.
Williams expects One Over Da Moon to attract interest from breeders who were unable to get their mares in foal with frozen semen, and were looking for a fresh semen alternative around December and January.
The winner of 19 of his 56 starts will then go north to Tony Herlihy in the new year to prepare for the autumn features at Alexandra Park.
Williams said no issues had been encountered with the entire when they collected semen from him two years ago.
"When he went back into work, it didn't worry him at all.''
One Over Da Moon was an outstanding 2yr-old, winning the 2yr-old Trotting Stakes and the 2yr-old ruby at the Harness Jewels in Ashburton despite starting off the unruly mark. He went to the Breeders Crown later that season, finishing a brave second behind Im Stately in the final.
He went back to Victoria in 2014 where he won the Holmfield and won a heat of the Australasian Trotting Championships earlier this year.
His win in last year's Ashburton Flying Stakes was the last time Monbet was beaten in New Zealand, finishing fifth behind One Over Da Moon in a brisk 1.55.5 for the mile.
His mother, One Over Kenny, won 32 races in her career, including two Rowe Cups, two National Trots, a Northern Trotting Derby, a New Zealand Trotting Championship and the 2007 Australasian Trotting Championship.
One Over Da Moon will be available through Barra Equine and will stand for $3000 plus GST.
Williams said any breeders with two winning mares to send to the stallion would only have to pay for the first mare to be served.
