Speculate extended a family record in the New Zealand Trotting Free-For-All with her win at Addington yesterday.
The 8yr-old mare posted her eighth win in 13 starts for the Smith family, Justin and his parents, Lynn and Gerry, who bred, own and train Speculate at Te Pirita.
Lynn is a daughter of Bill Doyle, who owned, trained and drove Gold Horizon to win the New Zealand Trotting FFA in 1953 and '54.
He also won the race with When in 1962.
Speculate, who has produced a foal, is from the family of When.
Speculate led over the last 1700m after starting from the second line.
She lasted by a long head from Real Deal Yankee, with Running On Time close up third.
Helen Pope, a sister of Lynn, was in the ownership of Call Me Now, winner of the New Zealand Trotting FFA in 1994 and '95.
• Auckland Reactor ran a New Zealand record for 1950m (mobile) of 2.17.8, a 1.53.7 mile rate, when he eclipsed his six rivals in the Firestone FFA.
Auckland Reactor led and dashed away by five lengths in the closing stages.
He ran his last 800m in 54.8 and 400 in 26.9.
His time bettered the all-comers record of 2.18.3 set by Stunin Cullen as a 3yr-old in 2008.
The record for older horses was 2.19.8, set by Nick Off Holme.
"He felt terrific, just awesome," Mark Purdon, his co-trainer and driver, said.
Auckland Reactor, who paid $1 to win and $1 for a place, will touch short odds in the New Zealand FFA on Friday.
His connections are in line for an invitation to the Miracle Mile at Menangle on November 29.
"We would love to see him racing in the southern hemisphere until the Interdominion at Menangle in March," Gary Lyons, the chairman of the Stallion Station (Christchurch), said.
The company is in the ownership of Auckland Reactor and will stand him at stud after he has raced in the United States.
• Sir Lincoln overcome a second-line draw to win the $200,000 Sires' Stakes final for 3yr-olds.
He gave driver Maurice McKendry his third win in the race.
McKendry also drove Dillon Dean to win in 1987 and Motoring Magic in 1993.
"It was not only the draw he [Sir Lincoln] overcame, he also pulled fairly hard," McKendry said.
Sir Lincoln ran the 1950m (mobile) in a 1.55.3 mile rate, the last 800m in 56.9.
Sir Lincoln is trained by Ray Green, private trainer for Lincoln Farms, Haupai.
The establishment is operated by Graeme Blackburn and John Street, Auckland supermarket owners.
They bred Sir Lincoln, who is by Mach Three, the sire of Auckland Reactor and Somebeachsomewhere, who won 20 of his 21 starts in the United States.
Somebeachsomewhere is now at stud.
Sir Lincoln is bred on the same cross, being out of a mare by Beach Towel.
Blackburn and Street have also won a Winter Cup at Riccarton with Mickey Street.
Green has raced one other horse in the South Island - Badlands Bute, winner of the 2005 New Zealand Derby for Lincoln Farms.
Green was then training in partnership with Robert Mitchell.
Kotare Mach, the favourite for the Sires' Stakes final, dropped out to last after leading.
He did not race kindly and driver Mark Purdon said he had been unsettled by a false start.
Kotare Mach became stirred up when the mobile gate continued for a round of the track before the field was dispatched.
• Highview Tommy equalled the national record for 2600m (mobile) when he won easily in 3.08.5.
Highview Tommy equalled the mark set by Desperate Comment in a heat of the 1995 Interdominion at Addington.
Mark Purdon and Grant Payne, the trainers of Highview Tommy and Auckland Reactor, also won yesterday with Mercurio and Joyfuljoy.
