Blackheart, winner of the Hawkes Bay Hurdles on Saturday, is by a stallion now being used mainly to breed sport horses.

Blackheart is by Flying Pegasus, a half-brother by In The Wings to Last Tycoon, winner of the Breeders' Cup (1600m) and King's Stand Stakes.

Flying Pegasus has been based for the past three seasons at Green Acres Stud, Amberley, operated by Angelique Hyde.

"He [Flying Pegasus] is semi-retired. He has only served sport horses the last couple of seasons," Hyde said.

Flying Pegasus was imported from England in 1996 by Robert Moriarty, who operates the Manorshire Stud at Ashburton.

Blackheart was bred by Wendy Harrington, the late partner of Moriarty.

Blackheart was sold for $4000 at the 2002 festival sale of yearlings at Karaka to Ian Brunton, of Auckland.

He sent the youngster to Cambridge trainer Sharon Cann, who shares in the ownership with her partner, Frank Phillips and Brunton.

Blackheart won five races on the flat.

Blackheart is the third foal of Twin Aid, a Random Chance mare who was placed.

She is a half-sister to Auricle, the dam of Perceptible, the winner of 11 races.

Fortune Spirit, the first foal of Perceptible, won at Riccarton on Friday when having his first start.

Twin Aid is out of Auditory, whose 13 wins included a Riverton Cup.

Lochlisten, the fourth dam of Blackheart, left Lord Fair, whose 15 wins included the Beaufort Steeplechase at the 1967 Grand National meeting.

Kingmaker, a brother to successful stallion O'Reilly, has been transferred to Green Acres Stud.

Kingmaker (Last Tycoon-Courtza), who began stud duty in 2003, has been based at the Manorshire Stud.

He has joined Painted Black, Ruby's Jester and Flying Pegasus.

Painted Black is the sire of the Ipswich Cup winner, Bianca.

Ruby's Jester, whose oldest progeny are 2yr-olds, is a half-brother by Rory's Jester to Rubiton, winner of the Cox Plate, Mackinnon Stakes and Underwood Stakes.

Ruby's Jester has been standing at the Grangewilliam Stud at Waitotara.
