Racing: SI-bred trotter successful in Maryborough feature

Maidstone Miss, winner of the group one $A50,000 Redwood Classic for 2yr-old trotters at Maryborough yesterday, was bred by Steve Thompson, of Dunedin, and Brian Wood, of Christchurch.

The daughter of Sundon and Geena Hest was sold for $35,000 at the premier yearling sale in February last year to Jayne Davies, of Melbourne.

Maidstone Miss won a $4000 non-tote race at Ashburton first up in April and she was placed in four other starts when trained by Dave Anderson at Templeton.

Maidstone Miss was transferred to Chris Alford in Melbourne 12 days ago. She rated 2.04.7 for the 2190m.

Messrs Thompson and Wood will offer a filly by CR Commando from Geena Hest at the premier sale in February.

• Amore Stride, trained by Mark Purdon and driven by Alford, won the Redwood Consolation in a 2.06.3 rate.

• Baby Bling, who won the group one $A75,000 Australian Oaks at Melton on Friday night, was developed by Wyndham trainers Gordon and Colin Lee.

Baby Bling, who won the Gold Coast Oaks, rated 1.57.2 for the 2240m at Melton.

Baby Bling joined the New South Wales stable of Luke McCarthy in March after a restructure of her ownership. She had finished fourth in each of her two starts for the Lees.

"I thought she was a real class filly and she was unlucky in both her races for me," Gordon Lee said.

Baby Bling was then owned by Lee's wife, Betty, with Harvey Kaplan and Kaye Kilgour, both of Melbourne.

"Harvey asked if we would sell, and the money was too good to refuse."

Kaplan and Kilgour syndicated the filly and retained shares.

Baby Bling had joined the Lee stable after she had been bought back for $7000 at the 2009 Australasian Classic sale at Karaka when offered by the Jordash Breeding Trust of Tinwald. She is by Western Terror and the second foal of Alldatglittersisgold, an unraced Caprock mare, who is a half- sister to Our Graedy (1.52.8), Sparks Will Fly (1.54.8) andFleet Vance (1.55.2).

"Malcoln Shinn asked me if I would take her after the sale and we took a half share. I have only spoken to the Melbourne owners on the phone," Lee said.

• Roll With Joe, a brother to the prominent stallion Bettor's Delight, won the $1.2 million Meadowlands Pace for 3yr-old pacers at The Meadowlands yesterday. He gave driver Ron Pierce his fourth win in the race and his third in succession.

Roll With Joe ran 1.48.4 compared with the race record of 1.47 set by Art Official in 2008.

See You At Peelers (by Bettor's Delight) remained unbeaten in 20 starts after she won the Tarport Hap for 3yr-old fillies in 1.51.

• The junior driver Brett Cusdin was suspended until midnight on September 4 for incompetent driving at Addington on Friday night. Cusdin admitted the charge in relation to the trotter Blackjacky pacing for most of the race after leaving her gait early. Blackjacky was disqualified from second place.
