The sale of star 3yr-old trotting filly Kahdon to Australia has fallen through.
"Ben Smith [the co-owner] decided the deal was off when the money did not come through by 4pm today," Paul Nairn, the trainer of Kahdon, said last night.
Kahdon is the top stake-earner among the 3yr-old trotters this season with $126,911. She has won the Northern Trotting Derby and the Sires' Stakes Championship at Alexandra Park in the past month.
She was runner up to Shezoneoftheboyz in the New Zealand Trotting Derby and second to Emma Hamilton in the New Zealand Trotting Oaks.
She has her next start in the $100,000 race for 3yr-old trotters at the Harness Jewels at Cambridge on June 5.
Nairn is based at Alexandra Park with Kahdon, Dr Hook and Musgrove. Dr Hook was a nine-length winner there on Thursday night. He is a candidate for the 4yr-old trotters section of the Harness Jewels.
McCready, the winner of two races from the Nairn stable, has been sold to Australia. He left on Tuesday and was due to race at Harold Park last night.
• Beaudiene Christian qualified for the 3yr-old pacers section of the Harness Jewels with an excellent win at Addington last night.
He led over 2600m (mobile) and recorded a smart 3.11.7, (a 1.58.6 mile rate).
• Auckland Reactor is set to have his first race in the United States tonight. He is in a $US32,000 race at The Meadowlands.
Now trained in New Jersey by Kelvin Harrison, he has won his three qualifiers at The Meadowlands, the most recent in 1.51.2 for the mile on May 13.
Lilac Splash, who is engaged at Oamaru tomorrow, was unlucky at Addington last night. Lilac Splash looked likely to win when challenging along the inner from three places back, but she went off stride.
The race was won by her stablemate, Magicol Topaz, who is also an acceptor at Oamaru. Magicol Topaz is now in the cut-off for the Harness Jewels.
