Racing: Riddell takes the mount aboard Hurricane Mickey

Hurricane Mickey, winner of the Te Awamutu Cup last Saturday, has been assigned the Whyte Handicap at Trentham this Saturday with a change of a rider.

Craig Grylls, who rode Hurricane Mickey at Te Awamutu, is at Ruakaka on Saturday. Jonathan Riddell has the mount at Trentham.

Hurricane Mickey, trained at Cambridge by Murray and Bjorn Baker, has 59kg, 1kg more than he carried at Te Awamutu. The distance is 20m further at 1600m. He shares the top weight with Bragato.

The Wingatui-trained Royal Flight will miss the Whyte Handicap due to a bruised foot. She remained at Cambridge after finishing third to Art Beat and Bavarian in the Tauranga Stakes on June 25.

She will now contest the Opunake Cup, a weight-for-age 1400m at New Plymouth on Saturday week providing she has recovered.

Strapped For Cash heads the field for the Parliamentary Handicap (2200m) at Trentham with 59kg. He has won the race the past two years with 59kg and 58kg.

Michelle Wenn has been the rider each time and she retains the mount.

No horse has won the Parliamentary three times in its 155-year history.

The previous winner in successive years with Laceration. He did not race again after his win as a 9yr-old in 1989.

Cattle King finished sixth as favourite in 1977 after wins the previous two years.

Kumai, ridden by Brian Anderton, won the Parliamentary in 1962 and 1964; ran third in 1963 and fourth in 1966 and he was unplaced in 1965.

• Borrack, a winner at Wingatui and Oamaru in two starts over hurdles, is again making the trip from Hunterville for the hurdles race at Washdyke on Sunday. Mathew Gillies, who rode him at Oamaru as a late replacement for Cody Singer, has the mount. Singer is still on the sideline after being concussed at Oamaru.
