Racing: Real Chance qualifies

Real Chance, who is engaged on the flat at Wingatui tomorrow, made a good impression when he qualified as a hurdler there yesterday morning.

The winner of six races, Real Chance ran third at Riverton at his last start.

He won fresh up over 1200m at Ascot Park in December and has been placed in four of his other six starts this season.

The 6yr-old Seasoned Star gelding, in the Brian and Shane Anderton stable, is top weight with 58kg in a rating 90 1600m tomorrow.

Real Chance, ridden by George Strickland, jumped 12 hurdles yesterday.

He was accompanied by stablemate Cheap Date (Stewart Moir), who lost his rider at the eighth fence when he collided mid-air with Real Chance.

Cheap Date was re-mounted and cleared three fences without incident.

Shaky Bridge (Moir) and Jotilla (Strickland) completed hurdling tickets when they jumped nine fences.

The Michael Pitman-trained Jotilla has been in the care of Paul Richards for his ticket.

Gioarchino (Andrew Taggart) jumped nine hurdles.

He secured a ticket last winter but he was confined to flat racing after he won.

La Gem (Jay Misbah) jumped nine hurdles.

Misbah said he enjoyed schooling horses but did not intend to ride over jumps in races.

The Richards-trained Anzac Star, who has won his two trials, both at Ashburton, has his first start tomorrow in the race for 2yr-olds.

The Seasoned Star-Solo Star gelding has been bought by Dunedin businessman, Ray Chalkin.

"We had him sold to Hong Kong but he failed a vet test when a bone chip the size of a pin head was found on his knee," Leeanne Richards said.

"The vet said the chip was not worth removing it was so minor."

Solo Star is the dam of Fly Solo, winner of six races including her last start at Wingatui on April 19.

Fly Solo (by Personal Escort) is an acceptor tomorrow.

The Glitzy One, the first foal of The Jewel, has her first start tomorrow.

The Flying Spur filly is trained by Steve Anderton, who co-trained The Jewel to win the 2002 New Zealand One Thousand Guineas.

"It will be a learning curve for her and I would be pleased if she ran a place," Anderton said.

Daniel Stackhouse has been granted a deferment of a suspension which will enable him to ride tomorrow.

The Judicial Control Authority agreed to the deferment of the suspension for careless riding at Winton on Sunday.

He had been suspended from Monday.

Daniel Bothamley, who injured a leg at Riverton on May 9, is back riding tomorrow.

Jonathan Riddell will ride on the flat at Awapuni on Saturday and Hawera on Sunday bypassing the Waikato Hurdles and Steeples at Te Rapa on Saturday.

He will not ride over fences again until he has ridden The Hombre in the $A500,000 Queensland Derby on June 12.

High Season, winner of the New Zealand Grand National Hurdles last year, will start equal top weight in the Waikato Hurdles.

On the same weight will be Yourtheman, a maiden steeplechase winner last week.

The Gore jumper Kidunot, winner of Great Northern Hurdles at Ellerslie last winter has been entered for the hurdles.

Climbing High is the horse to beat in the Steeples.
