Dave Carville, a prominent freight-forwarding company operator and standardbred owner in Christchurch, died suddenly yesterday.

Mr Carville (55) operated International Cargo Express Ltd with his wife, Katie. ICE, established 16 years ago, has become one of the largest international freight-forwarding companies in New Zealand.

"He was a very inspirational person," Barry Carville, his brother said.

Dave Carville had major success as an owner with Ohoka Arizona and Ohokas Bondy. He bred Ohoka Arizona (Christian Cullen-Millwood Krystal), the 2yr-old pacer of the year in the 2006-07 season when his wins included the Harness Jewels, New Zealand Welcome Stakes and Kindergarten Stakes.

Ohokas Bondy, a yearling sale purchase, won the group one Golden Slipper Stakes in Perth in July. Ohokas Bondy won his four starts as a 2yr-old.

"Dave was so looking forward to the first foals of Ohoka Arizona," Barry Carville said.

Ohoka Arizona served 95 mares when away from racing as a 4yr-old last season.

Chi Town Lady, the dam of Cityscape, a winner at Invercargill yesterday, is among the broodmares owned by the Carvilles.
