Kidunot, who has not raced in a steeplechase, is weighted 5kg above the minimum and 1.5kg below Lindisfarne, who has won five steeplechases, including the Great Western at Riverton and Homeby at Riccarton at his last two starts.
Lindisfarne carried 69kg in the Homeby.
Kidunot has won six hurdles races including the 2009 Great Northern at Ellerslie from 17 starts over hurdles.
"I want to go steeplechasing with him [Kidunot] but I just can't understand the system. They want to keep jumping alive but they crucify you," Winsloe said.
Kidunot was entered for the maiden steeplechase at Oamaru but the race was abandoned.
"There were only two horses entered for the maiden steeplechase so it was combined with the open steeplechase. The first maiden home will receive a $1000 bonus," Malcolm Little, the racing manager for Gallop South, said.
Winsloe said he was happy with Kidunot and looking forward to better footing at Oamaru.
The track was dead yesterday.
Kidunot has struck slow to heavy tracks in his three hurdles races this winter which has not been in his favour.
Kidunot has gained four of his hurdles wins on dead to good tracks at Oamaru.
Winsloe qualified Kidunot as a steeplechaser last winter.
"He jumps the bigger fences a bit high and I wanted to start him in a maiden steeple to get a better line on him," Winsloe said.
Winsloe recently took over Ballaphun for a hurdling career. The rising 9yr-old ran fourth on the flat at Washdyke on June 20 and Winsloe has left him with Wingatui trainer Paul Richards to obtain a hurdling ticket.
Ballaphun will have the opportunity to school over fences in company.
The Phountzi gelding won six races on the flat when trained by John and Teria McKay.
Richards made the trip to Rangiora yesterday with two horses for the trials.
He has Reconcile in the maiden hurdles tomorrow.
He switched maiden jumper Shaky Bridge to the open hurdles when a rider was not available in the maiden.
Winsloe is aiming Little Boss at the Grand National meeting.
The Sunray gelding followed up a maiden win over 2200m at Wingatui with success over 2100m at Washdyke last month.
Zarzuela has settled in at the Caulfield stable of Peter Moody, NZPA reports.
Winner of the Great Northern Guineas, Waikato Guineas and Championship Stakes at Ellerslie, Zarzuela was transferred by owner David Paykel from the Matamata stable of Mark Walker to give her better racing opportunities.
Moody trains Fairygem for Paykel.
Zarzuela finished fourth in the New Zealand Derby and third in the New Zealand Oaks.
The first four home in the derby - Military Move, Corporal Jones, Handsome Zulu and Zarzuela - are all now stabled overseas.
