John and Karen Parsons' phenomenal run continued when Monachee won the $50,000 Dunedin Gold Cup on Saturday and they picked up the last race of the day with Semper Plus.
However, Monachee's win was the standout as the O'Reilly mare blitzed her rivals by 6 lengths.
The Parsons have collected 13 wins since Christmas, including Final Touch in the group 1 Telegraph Handicap at Trentham last month and Monachee's win at Omakau on January 3.
John Parsons was not surprised at all to see the 6yr-old stretch out the way she did, after she put in two good runs during her trip to Trentham, including a fifth in the Summer Cup.
''They were pretty good runs at Trentham,'' Parsons said.
''She was rock-hard fit and had a quiet week this week.''
Monachee's win began a great 40 minutes for jockey Kylie Williams, who went on to win the White Robe Lodge Handicap on Ric O'Shea.
Monachee's win was special for her for another reason.
''I haven't won a Dunedin Gold Cup and I've had a good associations with the Parsons,'' Williams said.
''They're fantastic trainers and they don't have the well-bred horses like the people up north, yet they do just as good a job - if not better - than with million-dollar ponies.
Williams would love to stay with Monachee, who is set to line up in the Invercargill Gold Cup on February 16, but she leaves the decisions up to the Parsons.
''I just go with what the Parsons put me on,'' Williams said.
''You always know when you're on one of the Parsons' runners, you've got a show.''
That comment could be the understatement of the summer.
