Our Genes, who began racing seven years ago, recorded win number 22 from 135 starts when he was successful in the Ashburton Cup as a 10yr-old yesterday.

It was his 13th win with apprentice Amelia Denby in the saddle and his 20th from the Yaldhurst stable of Michael Pitman, who prepares the Generous-Di Luna gelding for his sons, Jonathan and Matthew, and Jim Bruford, of Auckland.

Bruford raced the Generous-Di Luna gelding originally after his purchase for $30,000 at the 2004 premier yearling sale.

Our Genes began racing as a 2yr-old in June, 2005. He had his first win at Avondale in September of that year when trained at Cambridge by Roger James. Our Genes was also a winner when trained by Moira Murdoch at Waiuku. Our Genes was transferred to Pitman early in 2008 as a 5yr-old.

The Pitman stable also won yesterday with Sir Singo and Aluminium Bikerack when both horses were starting fresh.

Sir Singo is headed to the New Zealand Two Thousand Guineas.

• Abidewithme furthered an outstanding record in the listed Ray Coupland Stakes for Te Akau Stables with her win yesterday.

Jason Bridgman, the trainer for Te Akau, also won the Coupland with the filly King's Rose in 2010. She carried on to win the New Zealand One Thousand Guineas. Now trained at Caulfield by Peter Moody, she is a leading fancy for the Moonga Stakes there today.

Mark Walker was the trainer for Te Akau when King's Chapel (2003), Sea Saint (2005) and Princess Coup (2006) won the Coupland.

Abidewithme, who won her other start at Washdyke last month, has been nominated for the New Zealand Two Thousand and One Thousand Guineas next month.

A daughter of Redoute's Choice and the Zabeel mare Crimson, winner of the Grosvenor Championship Stakes, Waikato Guineas and Star Belle Classic at Ellerslie in the late 1990s, she is raced by breeders Sir Patrick and Lady Justine Hogan, of the Cambridge stud.
