Jones drove the Dalgety-trained Smooth Trickster to win the 2001 Kurow Cup. Smooth Trickster started from a 45m handicap and set a race record of 3.14.1 for the 2600m.
Jones, who also drove Sandtross to win the 1997 Kurow Cup, is the replacement for Dexter Dunn. He is in Melbourne caring for Bit Of A Legend, Texican, Chanelle Bromac and Onlyforyou, the Dalgety candidates for the Breeders' Crown series.
Orl Black has won his last two starts and he is off the front, in receipt of a 10m start from Temudgin, winner of his last four starts.
Temudgin was freshened by Rakaia trainer Dave Jones after his win at Oamaru on June 24.
His wins have been from the mobile gate but the Christian Cullen gelding won twice from a stand when trained by Gerard O'Reilly, who has continued as his driver.
Here Comes Pat, who has been in great form, may not be a forlorn chance from a 40m handicap in race 9.
Here Comes Pat ran third at Addington nine days ago after starting from 50m.
She had won from a 50m handicap at Forbury Park at her previous start.
Lookslikeatrooper, a dashing winner at Oamaru last month and running on late for fifth at Addington last week, could feature in the finish.
Double El, who has shown much ability, resumes racing in race 5.
The Robbie Holmes-trained Double El has not raced since he won at Cromwell in January at his second start.
He proved difficult to drive that day and subsequently underwent X-rays which did not pinpoint a problem.
"He had corns removed from a foot and we put him out for three months," Carla Robertson-Holmes, said.
"He is now wearing flip-flops (a shoe with a rubber lining) and all seems well."
Double El finished second to well-performed Beach Bunny in one of his two workouts in a fresh preparation.
