Racing: Ohoka Arizona back

Ohoka Arizona, who has been away from racing since November due a fractured pastern, won a work-out at Motukarara on Saturday.

Ohoka Arizona ran the 2600m in 3.26.4, the last 800m in 58.2 after starting from 30m.

The Mark Purdon and Grant Payne-trained 4yr-old entire, won by a head from stablemate Steve McQueen with a similar margin to Bluegum Motel Shines.

Ohoka Arizona has won six of his 11 starts, including the Harness Jewels, Kindergarten Stakes, Sapling Stakes and Welcome Stakes as a 2yr-old.

He won fresh up at Addington last October.

Steve McQueen has not raced since January.

He was placed in heats of the Sires' Stakes for 3yr-olds at Forbury Park and Addington at his first two starts last season.

His form then slipped.

Bluegum Motel Shines is now trained by Sandra Mounce, a part-owner.

He won two races last season when trained by Warren Cochrane.

• Beaudiene Terminator compensated his new owners when he won at Invercargill yesterday.

The 6yr-old had been disqualified from first at Forbury Park 10 days earlier.

Graeme Anderson (the trainer), Brian Sceats, Paul Richards, Tony Gow, of Mosgiel and Stephen Pulley, of Dunedin, bought Beaudiene Terminator in May.

The Il Vicolo gelding was a winner at Gore last season when owned and trained by Allan Broomhall, of Invercargill.

• Matthew Williamson (18) drove his first winner yesterday when he partnered Springfield Tiz in the maiden trot.

Williamson, who began driving three weeks ago, was having his 12th drive.

He gave Springfield Tiz the run of the race and the 7yr-old mare won by a nose.

Williamson is employed by his father, Phil, the trainer of Springfield Tiz at Oamaru.

• Nathan Williamson, brother of Matthew, drove I'm A Star to an upset win yesterdayJulia Pilbrow, trained her first winner when Honoria Midfrew was successful at Addington on Friday night.

The West Melton-based Pilbrow (25) was granted a licence to train six months ago.

She gained experience with trainers Richard Aubrey and Mark Smolenski.

She prepares Honoria Midfrew for John and Rebecca Mooney.

• Ohoka Rebel was observed to have blood coming from a nostril after his win at Addington on Friday night, his 10th in as many starts.

He was examined by the club's veterinarian and found not to be a bleeder, stated the report of the stipendiary stewards.

• A hearing in regard to the penalty on a careless driving charge against Dexter Dunn has been further adjourned.

Dunn sought and was granted an adjournment by the Judicial Control Authority at Invercargill yesterday.

He admitted the charge at the Forbury Park meeting on August 14 when he was granted an adjournment.

• Ebony Gem has drawn one for the $A200,000 group one Chariots Of Fire at Harold Park last Friday night.

Ebony Gem, trained by Gareth Dixon at Clevedon qualified for the final by winning the Paleface Adios Sprint at Harold Park last Friday night.
