O'Cartier is back at Wingatui today attempting to repeat his win of three years ago in the open 1200m.
O'Cartier, trained at Balcairn by John and Karen Parsons for Bev Jones, won the 2007 open sprint at Wingatui in the hands of Catherine Treymane with 55kg.
The 7yr-old gelding has 58.5kg today with Chris Johnson the rider.
The much-travelled O'Cartier ran third to Fritzy Boy and Cellarmaster in the Challenge Stakes (1400m) at Awapuni last Saturday. His most recent win was in that race 12 months ago.
O'Cartier, the winner of 13 races, has been placed in four of his six starts this season. He ran second to El Chico at the New Zealand Cup meeting.
El Chico is among his rivals today. El Chico, one of three runners in the six-horse field for trainer Michael Pitman, is the mount on Jamie Bullard.
Santos, who is a stablemate of O'Cartier, will be in demand for the Guineas Prelude (1500m). Santos was an impressive maiden winner over 1600m at Wingatui in October.
He has since finished seventh in the New Zealand Two Thousand Guineas and fourth at Otaki at his last start. The Parsons stable has Lezani, the only winner in the 2yr-old race.
She won at Riccarton nine days ago.
Beata, who is resuming in race 11, won a maiden race fresh up at this meeting last year. Beata, who has not raced since February, also won at Wingatui in April.
Lucrative (race 10), who has been running on late in most of her races, will be tried over 2200m tomorrow.
The proven stayers Ketamada and Inferno are among her rivals.
