Racing: Oaks winner Victoria-bound

Commander Jewel, winner of the New Zealand Trotting Oaks in May, was consigned to the Nagambie (Victoria) stable of Chris Lang on Sunday.

Commander Jewel won five races from 12 starts under Burnham trainer Mark Jones. She is owned by Bernard McDonald, of Oxford.

He also races Nicky's Passion, Skip Bo, Misty Magic and Bwana.

Nicky's Passion, twice a winner from five starts, has been transferred to the stable of Todd Mitchell at Hamilton. Nicky's Passion, co-owned by McDonald's daughter, Michele, has won twice from five starts.

Nicky's Passion was a last-start winner at Forbury Park on August 11 from the Jones stable. The Peruvian Hanover gelding was a first-up 2yr-old winner at Addington when trained by Phil Anderson.

"Dad is 81 but he loves travelling. We thought having three horses up north we might get to see them racing on the same night," Michele said. "He also has a niece in Melbourne so we hope to go over there." Skip Bo is also in the Mitchell stable. Misty Magic is with Ian Small. Bwana is in the Mosgiel stable of Darryn Simpson.

"He [Bwana] has had some soreness issues." Bwana won twice in five starts when trained by Nigel McGrath.

The 5yr-old has not raced since December, 2009.

"Forbury Park is still Dad's favourite course. He has won a lot of races there and we are always very well treated by the club."

• Mathew Gillies rode the winners of the Great Northern steeplechase and hurdles at Ellerslie on Saturday with a fractured wrist.

An X-ray yesterday disclosed a hairline fracture of his left wrist.

The 25-year-old Cambridge rider injured the wrist in a fall at Paeroa on Wednesday. He had the injury strapped and rode a flat winner the next day at Waverley. He has also taken a painkiller.

"It was not that sore and just felt like a sprain. It felt good this morning and I was reluctant to have the X-ray but decided to get it checked out," he said yesterday.

He has his wrist in a brace and a stand-down from race riding.

"I just have to take quietly for the next three weeks."
