Racing: North Taieri-owned Clapton sold to Hong Kong

Clapton, who finished third in the New Zealand Two Thousand Guineas last month, has been sold to Hong Kong by his North Taieri owners, Joanne Hillis (the trainer) and Barry Cottle.

Hillis confirmed the sale yesterday to a patron of Hong Kong trainer John Size.

Clapton is booked to travel to Auckland tomorrow to enter quarantine.

He has not raced since finishing third to Katie Lee and Military Move in the $1 million Two Thousand Guineas at Riccarton on November 7.

His share of the stake was $85,000.

The Ekraar-Lady Tess gelding has had a win, a third and two fourth placings in five starts.

He won first-up as a 2yr-old at Riccarton in December last year.

"We had quite a bit of inquiry to buy him after the Guineas," Hillis said.

Clapton was a $22,000 purchase by Hillis at the NZ Bloodstock carnival sale of yearlings at Karaka when offered by Kumeu Thoroughbreds.

Jet Setter, winner of three of his eight starts, has been sold to Hong Kong.

Jet Setter, trained by Donna and Dean Logan and Chris Gibbs, has won twice this season.

Julia has joined the Rangioria stable of Paul Harris.

The 4yr-old mare was a 2yr-old winner at Otaki when trained by Jim Campin and Mark Fraser-Campin.
