It was the fourth win in eight starts for the Badlands Hanover 5yr-old, trained at Rangiora by Andrew Stuart for Nelson owners Barney and Greg Ruffell, Norman Crafar and Barry Osborne.
Stuart's father, Doug, is president of the Riverton Trotting Club but that was not the reason Mr Chrome made the long trip south.
"The stake was worthwhile and the race fitted well with the programme of Mr Chrome leading to the New Zealand Cup meeting," Stuart said.
Mr Chrome has his next start at Addington on Show Day.
He began racing with a win at Addington in September last year.
He recorded two wins and a second in four starts before his leg injury.
He was spelled for six months after surgery and returned with a win at Addington in August.
Stuart sold Mr Chrome to Ruffell, Crafar and Osborne as a yearling as a replacement for Tyron Living Wonder.
The latter was sold to Australia in 2007.
The Stuart-trained Tyron Living Wonder won at Forbury Park the previous year at his first start.
Stuart is viewing a start for Miss Moonlite in a fillies and mares' mile at Ashburton on November 11.
Miss Moonlite ran second to Jumpforjoy in a track record 1700m (mobile) heat of the Sires' Stakes Fillies Championship at Forbury Park on Sunday.
She has won two of her other four starts.
Mossdale Allan had his second win in three starts since joining the stable of Graeme Anderson and Amber Hoffman when successful yesterday.
Mossdale Allan will now accompany Yokozuna to the New Zealand Cup meeting.
The stable also won yesterday with Fiery Count, who was having his first start.
Fiery Count, a half-brother by Courage Under Fire to Stay N Alive (six wins in New Zealand) is owned by Anderson, Stephen Pulley, Paul Richards, Trevor Nicolson and Joan Christie (mother of Hoffman).
Anvil's Best Ever, a brilliant winner of the Tuapeka Cup at Forbury Park on Sunday, has been entered for the Kaikoura Cup on Monday.
Rebel Scooter, who has won at Addington and Methven from two starts, is an acceptor for a junior drivers' race at Addington on Friday night.
He finished a head second to Kipp Ross (30m) in a trial at Orari on Saturday.
Changel qualified as a pacer at Orari when she won her test in 3.13.8, 5.2sec inside the required time.
She is a 4yr-old Artiscape-Star Of Liberty mare trained by Graham Bartlett.
Valhalla is a newcomer to the Roxburgh stable of Geoff and Judy Knight.
Valhalla won twice at Addington when trained by Bryan Lilley.
The 6yr-old has not raced since July.
