Racing: Mr Chrome being aimed at Rangiora Winter Cup

Mr Chrome, a fresh-up winner at Waterlea on Friday, is being aimed at the Rangiora Winter Cup after being denied his opportunity in the Marlborough Winter Cup.

"We went to the Marlborough meeting with the cup in mind as he is owned in Blenheim," Andrew Stuart, his Rangiora trainer, said.

The cup was on the programme abandoned on Sunday much to the disappointment of his owners, Barry Osborne, Norman Crafar, Greg and Stewart Ruffell.

The $12,000 Rangiora Winter Cup is on Sunday week.

Mr Chrome was having his first race for close on six months when he won the cup prelude decisively on Friday.

"He got crook last Christmas. He changed colour and turned yellow. He must have caught some sort of virus," Stuart said.

"We spelled him for about six weeks."

Stuart said that Mr Chrome had come through his race on Friday in splendid style.

The Stuart-trained Miss Moonlite has a heat of the Breeders' Crown at Addington on July 15 next on her programme. The 3yr-old filly was spelled for a fortnight after an unplaced run in the Harness Jewels. She ran third in the NZ Oaks.

Flying Isa and Paramount Geegee, the 2 and 3yr-old trotting winners of the Harness Jewels, are engaged in heats of the Breeders' Crown at Alexandra Park on Friday.

Paramount Geegee is the only nomination for his heat.

You Rock is an opponent for Flying Isa. You Rock won against older horses at Cambridge on June 7 in his only start. He is a colt by Love You from Rock'n Rhonda, trained by Ray Green. You Rock is a half-brother to Lifeoftheparty (six wins).

John Dickie, the Cambridge trainer of Flying Isa and Paramount Geegee, plans to run Paramount Geegee over the 1700m (mobile) although only required to present the horse to be declared the winner.

"I want to give him a good work-out as he is on the plane to Melbourne the following week," Dickie said. Dickie is viewing a heat of the Victoria Trotting Derby at Ballarat on July 9 and the final at Maryborough eight days later.

Paramount Gee won the Breeders' Crown at Melton and another race at Geelong last August.

Josh Dickie drives the pair on Friday night, with Robbie Holmes back in the sulky for the Derby Final.

Paramount Geegee will return to Cambridge after the Derby. He will then accompany Flying Isa to Victoria for the Breeders' Crown in August.

• Tatijana Bromac was flown to Brisbane from Auckland on Sunday for the Queensland Oaks on Saturday week. The Mark Purdon and Grant Payne-trained filly ran Carabella to a neck in the jewels at her last start. She has been placed in the NZ and Northern Oaks and Sires' Stakes Final and won over a mile in 1.54.2 at Ashburton.

Auckland Reactor has been back jogging for three weeks with the Purdon-Payne stable at Pukekohe. He was sidelined with colitis on the eve of the Interdominion in Auckland in March.

• Society Rock, at odds of 25 to one, won the Golden Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot on Sunday, AAP reports.

Society Rock won the 1200m group one race from Monsieur Chevalier and Star Witness, the Australian sprinter.

The race was run on a heavy track.
