Magic Edition, winner of two of her last three starts, has been scratched at Gore tomorrow, following her sale to Western Australia.
The 5yr-old Christian Cullen-Mocca Magic mare is booked on a flight from Auckland to Perth on Thursday to join the stable of Bob Mellsop. Magic Edition has been trained at Ryal Bush by Murray Gray, a part-owner.
The sale was negotiated by Paul Davies, a Christchurch bloodstock agent.
Davies was a guest speaker at a dinner last Saturday to mark the 50th jubilee race meeting of the Tuapeka Trotting Club. He was a stock agent based at Lawrence when he began work.
He was also commentator for the Tuapeka club at Forbury Park, encompassing the last equalisator meeting in 1977 and the first totalisator meeting the following year.
He recalled that several horses that raced at those meetings carried on to greater achievements or made their mark as a broodmares.
"Princess Pat, Light Chase, Tuapeka Dream, Be Sly and Jack Ruler were among those at the last equalisator meeting. Light Chase left Orbell who, in turn, left Lento and Bella Chip (the granddam of Bettor's Strike). Be Sly won 10 races in New Zealand and Tuapeka Dream left Tuapeka Knight," he said.
"Idolmite, Glen Moria and Good Going were three Cup class mares at the first tote meeting."
Davies said meetings like Tuapeka played an important role in harness racing.
"Addington is the pinnacle but meetings at Forbury Park are where it all begins and we should never forget that." he said.
