Racing: Living Proof makes trip worthwhile

Living Proof made it worthwhile for his veteran owner Jim Dalgety to make the trip from West Melton to Waimate yesterday when the 4yr-old won the Waimate Cup.

Dalgety (76) has Living Proof in the West Melton stable of his son, Cran, who is in Australia preparing Bettor's Strike for the Victoria Cup on Friday night.

Living Proof was given the run of the race yesterday by stable reinsman Shane Walkinshaw.

It was the sixth win for Living Proof, the only foal Jim bred from Courteous Bromac, an OK Bye mare.

Jim also bred Lucy Lumber, the great granddam of Living Proof.

Lucy Lumber left the big winner, Insutcha.

Washakie is headed to the Victoria Cup after a decisive win in the $A100,000 Treuer Memorial at Bankstown on Saturday night.

Washakie rated 1.59.4 for the 2540m (mobile).

He finished 3.8m clear of Karloo Mick.

Washakie was driven by his Queensland trainer John McCarthy, who will switch to stablemate Be Good Johnny in the Victoria Cup, a race he won in 2005.

Luke McCarthy will drive Washakie.

Washakie has won 10 races and $248,000 in Australia since he was sold out of the Pukekohe stable of Steven Reid after 11 wins in New Zealand.

The Badlands Hanover-Shoshoni Sunrise gelding was bred by Lester Paisley, of Gore.

Bold Cruiser was guaranteed a start in the Victoria Cup after his win on promotion in the Popular Alm Free-For-All at Melton on Friday night.

He finished second, a head from Mr Feelgood but the placings were reversed.

Mr Feelgood drifted out and locked wheels with Bold Cruiser near the finish.

Bold Cruiser rated 1.56.8 for the 2240m (mobile), 0.6sec outside the track record held by Tintin In America.

The Live Or Die-Holmes Dream 8yr-old gelding took his stake earnings beyond $A500,000.

He has won 16 races in Australia after being sold by Oamaru breeder Brian Fraser.

Bold Cruiser won seven races when trained by Wayne Adams at Invercargill.

Sundons Gift won the Australian Trotting Grand Prix for the third successive year at Melton on Friday night.

He rated 1.58.7 for the 2240m (mobile).

The race was previously run over 2575m at Moonee Valley.

Springbank Richard finished fifth.

Im Themightyquinn, the former Ohoka pacer, won the $A250,000 Fremantle Cup at Gloucester Park on Friday night.

Im Themightyquinn (Washington V C-Love Sign), bred by Bill Kennedy, of Bayswater, has won 15 races.

Major Mark, winner of the first heat of the Young Guns series for 2yr-old pacers at Alexandra Park on Friday night, was a $60,000 purchase at the premier yearling sale last February.

He is by Art Major, a highly successful sire in North America and the second foal of Gucci Franco, a Live Or Die mare whose other foal, Supersonic Franco, has been a 2yr-old winner in Victoria.

Major Art is trained by Mark Purdon and Grant Payne for Phil and Glenys Kennard, Neil Pilcher, Phil Creighton, all of Christchurch and Gavin Douglas, of Ashburton.

Major Mark was bred by the Styx Stables, Christchurch, operated by Neil Rich and his wife.

Pilcher shares the ownership of Russley Rascal, a winner on Friday night.
