Leave Mealone won first up for Mosgiel trainer Darryn Simpson at Invercargill yesterday after failing to clear maiden ranks in 21 previous starts.

The 5yr-old mare was transferred to Simpson three weeks ago from the Motukarara stable of Murray Edmonds.

"I talked to Murray about sending her down for a month for the early season racing," Simpson said.

Edmonds has passed on several horses to Simpson with winning results.

Leave Mealone, owned by the Ngaio Cove syndicate, of Christchurch, is by Elsu and the first foal of Kitty Malone, who won two races when trained by Edmonds and another two for Geoff Dunn.

Simpson is viewing a start at Gore on Sunday week for Maddison Renee, who missed a race at Addington tonight, when the meeting was abandoned. Maddison Renee ran second to Dixie Belle at Addington at her last start on July 29.

Flashman won first up for the Westwood Beach trainers, Graeme Anderson and Amber Hoffman. The 7yr-old mare had not raced for seven months.

Cherokee Charlie, who won yesterday at his first start, is the first foal of Badland's Legend, the winner of five races. Cherokee Charlie was a $36,000 purchase by Invercargill trainer Murray Brown at the 2009 premier yearling sale when offered by Richard Cornelius.

The Bettor's Delight 4yr-old is raced by the Cherokee All Stars syndicate.

Brown also won yesterday with Hokuri Handrail.

El Nino had his second win in five starts since joining the North Taieri stable of Craig Buchan. Kirstin Barclay has driven El Nino in both those wins and two of his other four wins.
