Racing: Lady Dancer late entry for series

Lady Dancer, who won at Motukarara on Sunday when having her first start, is a late entry for the Sires' Stakes series for 3yr-old fillies.

The Nevele R Studsponsored series continues with the eighth heat at Addington on Friday night.

Lady Dancer is trained at Rolleston by Mark Purdon and Grant Payne, who also have Fight Fire With Fire entered for the heat on Friday night.

Lady Dancer is a filly by Christian Cullen from Jodi Vance, raced by her Fernside breeders, Dennis Bennett and Linda Joyce, who operate Lindenny Lodge.

Lady Dancer is a half-sister by Vance Hanover to Surprise Package, whose 13 wins included the Thames Juvenile Stakes, Franklin Cup and Noel Taylor Mile. He took a record of 1.52.4 in the United States.

Jodi Vance, winner of the Thames Debutante Stakes, is also the dam of Great Western (1.51.6) and I'vecomealongway (Cardigan Bay Stakes).

Bennett prepared Lady Dancer to qualify at Ashburton on January 19.

‘‘I got Blair [Orange] to drive her in the qualifying trial and when I asked him for an assessment he said he ‘wouldn't mind if she was in our stable,'' Bennett said.

‘‘We had a talk to Mark Purdon and decided to make the transfer".

Bennett has held a training licence for four years and he prepared Helena Kilena for a first-up win at Addington in the spring of 2006. The Soky's Atom mare was in foal to Bettor's Delight and subsequently produced a colt.

Bennett and Joyce bought Jodi Vance and Helena Kilena from Clevedon horseman Barry Purdon. Jodi Vance was then 17 and had a filly at foot by Dream Away. The filly was sold at the premier sale.

A colt by Grinfromeartoear from Jodi Vance was sold for $20,000 at the premier sale in February.
Angela's Dream, Safin and Party Girl Becqui have been other late entries for the 2008 Sires' Stakes series. Angela's Dream won the heat at Forbury Park on March 20.

- Jacquimo, who is having his first start in the $70,000 Yearling Sales Trot at Ashburton today, is a 2yr-old gelding by Courage Under Fire from Kahlum and thus a halfbrother to champion trotter Lyell Creek.

Jacquimo qualified when he won a mile trial at Ashburton eight days ago in 2.02.1. He won by a nose from Dream Machine, who is among his rivals today.

Yankee Del, another rival, won a trial the same day in 2.03.2.

The Murray Edmondstrained Yankee Del won a non-totalisator race at Addington on February 1. He is the only winner in the field today.

Jacquimo is owned and trained by Ken Ford, who bought him back for $28,000 at the premier yearling sale.

Jacquimo is the ninth foal Kahlum has produced since Lyell Creek (by pacing sire, Roydon Glen).
Her progeny include minor winners Green Lane, The Iron Gate and Lukes Creek.
