Racing: Kiwi Rage for Melbourne

Kiwi Rage, who made an instant return for a new owner with a win at Gore yesterday, will now head to Melbourne.

Kiwi Rage was bought by Jenny Mahncke, of Melbourne after he won his previous start at Invercargill on August 18.

"He will go to Melbourne this week. He will still be a maiden in Australia," Kirk Larsen, his Branxholme trainer, said.

Kiwi Rage will be trained by Mahncke's husband, Bob.

"The Mahnckes have bought a lot of horses from us, with Gilt Bromac a big winner," Larsen said.

Gilt Bromac has won 22 races and $A199,000.

Kiwi Rage, a 4yr-old by Falcon Seelster from Soky's Rage, had his other win for Bill Feiss, of Melbourne. Feiss had bought Kiwi Rage for $30,000 at the premier yearling sale.

Essene, another member of the Larsen stable, is also headed to Melbourne and the stable of Ian Frost after being vetted for sale. Essene, winner of three races, has won at Forbury Park and Addington in his last three starts.

• Brad Williamson drove his first winner, Graceandtemika, yesterday. Williamson (17) began race-driving at the Kurow meeting three weeks earlier.

His brothers, Matthew and Nathan, also drove winners yesterday. Nathan won with Sunrise Delight. He is also the trainer of the Sundon-Little Miss Watch mare who finished second in her other start.

Hezadoo Early, trained by the Williamsons' father, Phil, finished second to Sunrise Delight, who is a sister to Musgrove (14 wins), Sun Watch (seven) and Aleana (six).

Graceantemika was having her second start for Roxburgh trainers Geoff and Judy Knight after being transferred to their stable from Bruce Negus five weeks ago.

• Call Of Duty, a $41,000 purchase by trainer Allan Beck at the 2009 premier yearling sale, cleared maiden ranks at his third start. He is a 4yr-old half brother by Live Or Die to Report For Duty, whose 12 wins included the Kaikoura and Franklin Cups and Superstars Championship. He took a record of 1.51.6 in the United States.

Bettor Yarn, who was sold for $36,000 at the Australasian Classic sale, won yesterday for the Murray Brown stable.

• Meet Me In Seattle ran the fastest time of workout winners at Rangiora on Saturday. He ran 2000m (mobile) in 2.32.7.

The Cran Dalgety-trained Meet Me In Seattle has won bis only start - at Washdyke in December.

Moment Of Truth, the 11-win trotter, won a heat from a 30m handicap. He is being given preliminary work by Rangiora owners John and Matthew Purvis before rejoining the Hamilton stable of Rob Lawson.

Monkey King ran fourth in a heat won by Nikita Bromac in 2.33.9.

Artiface ran his last 800m in 56.7 when winning his heat over 2600m in 3.24.3. Artiface was spelled early in May. He has won five of his nine starts. He won four races for John Parsons and another for Ian Small.
