King Montrose (race 5) resumed from a four-month break with a win at Oamaru on July 1.
"I think he is stronger this time in," Ridley said.
King Montrose won first up at Oamaru last August but two minor placings were his lot in another six starts before he was spelled in February.
Chris Johnson is back aboard Romany in the open 1200m today. Romany is trying for his fourth win on end. He won the Winter Cup Trial (1400m) at Ashburton at his last start on a soft track 11 days ago. Paul Taylor had the mount that day with Johnson under suspension.
• The Marlborough Racing Club meeting scheduled for Sunday has been abandoned due to the state of the track.
Twenty millimetres of rain fell at Waterlea on Wednesday night with the track having previously been rated heavy (11).
The track was inspected by stipendiary stewards and club representatives yesterday afternoon. There is significant surface water rendering the track unsafe.
