Ohoka Texas, a 10-length winner at the New Zealand Cup meeting last month, is being aimed at cup races in Southland and on the West Coast this month.
Ohoka Texas won a workout at Rangiora on Saturday. He won by a nose from Artiface after both horses started from 40m. Ohoka Texas ran the 2600m in 3.19.9, the last 800m in 56.5.
Artiface has been entered for the Kumeu Founders Cup at Alexandra Park on Friday night. He has not raced since finishing second to Smiling Shard in the Kaikoura Cup.
"He [Ohoka Texas] had 10 days off [work] after the cup meeting and he will go to Winton for the Wairio Cup [next Saturday] and then to Westport for the cup," Mark Jones, his Burnham trainer, said.
The Wairio Cup has a stake of $18,000 and the stake for the Westport Cup on December 26 is $20,000.
Ohoka Texas has won eight of his 16 starts.
Vi Et Animo, back with Invercargill trainer Gil Shirley, has also been entered for the Wairio Cup.
