Jaccka Justy, a dashing winner at the Balfour trials on Sunday, is an acceptor for the Invercargill meeting at Ascot Park on Thursday.

Jaccka Justy has been back with his Riversdale owner, Charlie Smaill, since he last raced on October 25. The trotter won successive starts at Invercargill and Forbury Park when trained by Smaill during the winter.

Jaccka Justy won his trial on Sunday by seven lengths after starting from 40m. His time of 3.27 for the 2600m was equal fastest of the day. The pacer McBeths Boy won the $1000 Tin Shed Cup in the same time after starting from 30m.

Trainer Craig Buchan said yesterday that he had decided to buy Cutie Patootie, who won at Forbury Park last Thursday, four days after joining his North Taieri stable.

Cutie Patootie had been transferred from the Highbank stable of part-owner Carl Middleton with the option that Buchan could lease or buy the 5yr-old mare. Middleton felt she had reached her mark in Canterbury. Cutie Patootie is an acceptor at Invercargill on Thursday and she has been entered for Waimate on Sunday.

• Trainer David Hayes says Americain has settled well after arriving at his Euroa property late last week, AAP reports.

Hayes has taken over the training of Americain from Alain de Royer-Dupre, of France.

"He has a great nature and is doing very well," Hayes said.

"He has been here four or five days and he is just having a very easy time familiarising himself with the property for a couple of weeks with no pressure.

"It is all a bit new to him but we are showing him how to go out in the paddock, which he has never really done.

"He is a sensible horse and I think he will adjust pretty well."

Stephanie Nigge, strapper for Americain, has remained with the 2010 Melbourne Cup winner.

Hayes has flagged the Australian Cup (2000m) at Flemington in March as a preferred autumn target for Americain.

• Police are on high alert after a fourth suspicious fire in 10 days at Foxton Racecourse, APNZ reports.

A security guard spotted flames in the caretaker's shed about 4.45am on Sunday and raised the alarm.

The caretaker and security guard extinguished the blaze before the Fire Service arrived, preventing it from doing damage to more than the shed's wooden door.

Acting Detective Sergeant Marianne Whitfield said it was extremely concerning for both the racecourse and the police that yet another fire had been set.

"It seems that someone has a serious issue with the club, and it has been by pure luck that no-one has been seriously injured or killed."

The first fire was on November 18, when the grandstand and the race day office were badly damaged in a late-night blaze.

The following night, about 10.50pm, firefighters responded to calls about a second fire, this time in one of the stable blocks, but it was too late and the structure was destroyed.

And then last Wednesday, firefighters spent about three hours battling a blaze in another stable block, which was severely damaged.
