Racing: Hoping for third time luckyin the Kaikoura Cup today

Highview Tommy could improve on minor placings in the past two Kaikoura Cups with a win in the $50,000 feature at South Bay racecourse today.

Highview Tommy finished second in 2010 and fourth last year with Smiling Shard the winner each time. Highview Tommy was unlucky last year as he locked wheels over the closing stages. Highview Tommy has run sound races in his three starts this season with a first up third to Terror To Love and Mah Sish in the New Brighton Cup his best effort.

Ohoka Texas, a last-start winner over a mile at Winton, won a mobile start race at Kaikoura in 2010.

Wot The Owl won at his first start for Waimate trainer Craig Kennett at Gore yesterday after being claimed by Josh Kennett, son of the trainer, for $3500 at his previous start. Wot The Owl has now won a total of 12 races for five different trainers. He won four races when trained by Peter Young at Thames.

The 8yr-old has won eight races in the past five months since being claimed at a Taranaki meeting in April and joining the Invercargill stable of Andrew Armour. Wot The Owl won five races for Armour and he has also won for Tom Kilkelly and Geoff and Jude Knight. Wot The Owl had been off the winning list for 12 months when he came south.

Caribbean Blaster, the New Zealand Cup entrant, finished second to Bitobliss in the $A70,000 Kilmore Cup yesterday. Bitobliss won by a metre in a 2.01.3 mile rate for the 3150m.

Im Themightyquinn resumed racing with a win in the $A50,000 Mount Eden Sprint at Gloucester Park on Friday night. Im Themightyquinn, who had not raced since he won the Interdominion Final in Perth in March, rated 1.54.6 for the 1700m (mobile) on Friday night.

A delay in receiving the report of the board of management has caused the annual meeting of the Forbury Park Trotting Club to be put back from Wednesday until November 28.
