Lisa Allpress and Michael Pitman have been a powerful combination for years.

But the pair added some more firsts at Wingatui yesterday when Another Coup swooped to win the listed Dunedin Guineas.

Jockey Allpress and trainer Pitman have never won a Dunedin Guineas together, and the filly's win was the first by Allpress for the training combination of Pitman and his son Matthew.

Allpress is riding occasionally to keep herself fit before she takes up a riding contract in Japan in April. As soon as she went out on the track before the 1400m feature, she knew she made the right decision to come to Wingatui for the ride.

''I was very impressed with her,'' Allpress said.

''She cantered around to the start beautifully. She was on the bridle and gave me a nice feel.''

Allpress opted to nurse the Darci Brahma filly out of the gates and let her find her feet early before she decided to move to a spot behind Belle Miraaj.

''I saw the red-hot favourite with Jamie Bates on it so I just elected to follow him wherever he went and I got a brilliant drag into the race.

''When I popped the question, she really responded well.''

Another Coup looked like an outstanding prospect with two wins in four days at the New Zealand Cup carnival in November, before fourths at Wingatui and Omakau over the holiday period.

''Omakau is a saucer track and she's a big-track horse - we're on to the [New Zealand] Oaks now,'' Pitman said.

''She'll have a race between now and then. She might go up north yet.''

Allpress was certainly open to the idea of riding the filly in the group 1 2400m at Trentham in March.

''I'd definitely love to ride her in the Oaks,'' she said.

''Horses that have won guineas races and are 3yr-olds performing in a good race are always a chance in a race like the Oaks or the Derby.''

In the meantime, Allpress will take a few rides, but is mainly focused on family time from now to the end of March.

''I don't want to travel. I want to spend all the time I can with my kids at the moment before I go to Japan because they can't come.

''If I get rides [around New Zealand] I'll go, but if I don't, I'll be happy to stay at home''It's basically just to keep me fit and keep my eye in and you do need to do that. I had a whole month off over Christmas and on my first couple of days back, I felt so rusty.''

Another Coup was the first Dunedin Guineas success for Allpress, but it was the sixth for Pitman following on from Pronto King (1983), Just Tommy (1990), Princeton Bay (1996), Borninthestates (2005) and Milo (2011).
