Golding will drive the Christian Cullen filly Koree Jayne in her first standing-start attempt, Golding has been working at the Woodend Beach stables of Greg and Nina Hope for about a month, and has ended up in the sulky behind the 3yr-old, who is part-owned by his good friend Scott Stewart, who is on a trip to Canada.
''He sent her to Greg and Nina's and it's quite funny how I've ended up driving her,'' Golding said.
Text messages have already been exchanged between the pair, but Golding insists there has been no sign of any driving instructions from Stewart.
Koree Jayne ran a tidy second at the Rangiora trials last weekend behind the Cran Dalgety-trained Bettor Me, who is out of the three-win mare Bella Me. Media Queen, who lines up in race three tonight, was a nose further back in third.
''She actually trialled pretty nice on Saturday at the workouts,'' Golding said.
''She's got a good draw and if she gets a good run, she's probably my best chance anyway.''
Koree Jayne is yet to face the tapes from a standing start on race day, but Golding does not see that as a problem.
''She's pretty good [with her manners]. She should be stepping away.
Golding was looking forward to having three drives tonight, but the likely scratching of Steal A Grin robbed him of a good chance in the junior drivers' race.
''She's just up in a hind leg at the moment,'' Golding said.
''I think Greg and Nina don't want to push her as she's got that final of the Golden Girls [series, at Forbury Park] next week.''
Golding's other drive is for Forbury Park horseman Darryl Trainor, who lines up Be Me for the first time following 20 starts for Ashburton trainer Ben Waldron.
''I haven't spoken to him about the horse, but [Trainor] does a good job with them. He always looks after them.''
Be Me's first look at the Forbury Park track at high speed was at the trials on Sunday, where he ran second behind Smokin Bird.
Golding is enjoying his stint at the Hopes' outfit as he contemplates his next step in the industry.
''It's a good freshen-up being at the beach and learning a new regime, finding out about beach training.''
Golding has previously worked for Ken Barron, Mark Jones and Peter and Leonne Jones among others, and also dabbles in some farrier work.
