Racing: First group one win for Proctor

Tact Lizzie gave Trevor Proctor his first group one win in his third season as a trainer when she was successful in the New Zealand Breeders' Stakes at Addington on Friday night.

The Winton-based Proctor prepares Tact Lizzie for Bessie Dynes (75), who bred the mare with her late husband, Derek.

Proctor's partner is Diane Dynes, daughter of Bessie and Derek.

Proctor assisted Derek with training and running a stud.

He took out a licence to train when Derek died in 2007.

Tact Lizzie has remained in Canterbury for the New Zealand Mares' Championship at Addington on Thursday night.

Proctor has her quartered with Laurence Hanrahan at Waterford.

"She will go home after Thursday and we will see if she is in foal. The vet is hopeful," Proctor said.

Tact Lizzie has failed to hold to two earlier matings with McArdle this season.

Her latest insemination from McArdle was on January 13, the day before she set a New Zealand record for a mare over 2700m (mobile) of 3.20.6 at Ascot Park.

She set a record for a mare on Friday night of 3.09.4 for 2600m (mobile).

The New Zealand record is 3.08.5. held by Highview Tommy and Desperate Comment. A 5yr-old by Christian Cullen from Tact Hayley, Tact Lizzie has won 10 races from 34 starts.

She traces to Tactics, a top-class racemare who was bought by the late Jim Dynes (cousin of Derek) in 1958 after she had left four foals.

Tactics left Tactile, winner of five derbies.

The family has also left the great juvenile pacer Noodlum, Deft and Olga Korbut.
