Owners Grant Dickey, Ed and Carolyn Wardwell and horseman Ken Barron have now won four races for horses purchased at the PGG Wrightson yearling sales.
They triumphed with Thumpem in the $300,000 event for 2yr-old pacers at Addington on Saturday.
They won a $214,000 sales race for 3yr-olds with Georgetown at Alexandra Park in 2007.
The same owners also raced Gold Prince and Spiritual King, winner of sales races at Alexandra Park for 2yr-olds bred to northern hemisphere time.
The ill-fated Gold Prince won in 2001 when driven by Barron and trained by John Lischner.
Barron was training with Lischner at West Melton when Spiritual King won in 2004 in the hands of Maurice McKendry.
Barron experienced a high and a low of racing last week.
Five days earlier his 2yr-old Major Obsession collapsed and died after a workout at Addington.
Major Obsession, owned by Steve Thompson, of Dunedin, had been placed in seven of his nine starts.
The Art Major-Absolute Obsession colt was a $76,000 yearling purchase.
The horse was not insured.
The win on Saturday was significant for Dickey.
He is a life member of the NZ Metropolitan Trotting Club.
He was a president of the Canterbury Park TC and has had a 35-year association with the Addington clubs.
The Wardwells live in the Virgin Islands.
Ed Wardwell is in Texas undergoing treatment for cancer of the oesophagus.
Dickey recalled how they became acquainted.
"Ed invited me to a cocktail party when he first came to Christchurch.
It was between 5pm and 8pm and when I observed those hours, he came back to me and said he liked the way I operated and our friendship went from there," Dickey said.
Thumpem was a $66,000 purchase at the premier yearling sale in Christchurch.
He is a colt by In The Pocket and the first foal of Crushem, a Holmes Hanover mare who won five races.
She is a half-sister to six winners including Bruzem (10 wins in NZ and 1.52.6 in the United States) and a sister to Lilly Laingtree (10 wins).
Thumpem led for the last 1200m and won by half a length from Le Sol.
The Muskeg Express, who had headed Thumpem near the 200m, tangled and dropped out to eighth.
The favourite Major Mark ran on for fourth after a slow start.
Barron made it back to back wins when Still Coughin accounted for better-performed horses under free-for-all conditions.
Still Coughin came along the passing lane to prevail by a long neck over Bettor's Strike.
Trainers Mark Purdon and Grant Payne produced the first three home in the $150,000 Sires' Stakes Final for 3yr-old pacing fillies.
Secret Potion, driven by Nicole Molander, won by half a length from Meredith Maguire with half a neck to Lancome.
Secret Potion and Lancome are raced by Studholme Bloodstock Ltd, operated by Brian West, of Coes Ford.
He bred Secret Potion, winner of the Great Northern Oaks.
West paid a tribute to Molander who had been instrumental in the preparation of Secret Potion.
She is in charge of the Pukekohe stable operated by Purdon and Payne.
It was her fourth group one win.
Molander is pregnant with her second child and she will take a break from training after the Harness Jewels.
It was the second major win for Molander at Addington.
She drove Gotta Go Cullen to dead-heat with Fergiemack in the 2006 Sires' Stakes for 2yr-olds.
Secret Potion is in the NZ Oaks on Friday night.
Lauraella won the treble last year.
